A Week in Review is a series where I summarize all the latest updates of farm and fixer upper life in one spot. Last week was spent bringing spring vibes into the farmhouse and sharing all about our new bed.

A difficult start to the week
Today was the most Monday-iest Tuesday I’ve had in a long time! It started with my favorite glass spray bottle shattering into a million shards of glass when I was making breakfast. That is enough to give you an idea of how the rest of the day went. Oh well. We are all safe and healthy and that’s enough for me. Plus it gave me an excuse to break into a chocolate bar and that always makes things a whole lot better!
On the bright side, our buff orpington chicken Ann, left us a gift at our door today. She has been laying her egg on the wicker chair outside of our door. It is so cute!
Spring Views
I can’t wait to have this view of the farm again. In just a couple more weeks our magnolia tree will be in bloom and the field will be green. We still don’t have grass in this section of the yard because Kurt has been doing a lot of work cleaning up dead trees but the chickens love picking through the dirt for now.
Remember the fence Kurt has been installing since last summer? Well, he is almost done and just in time for a few furry friends we will be adding to @flintcreekfarm soon. I can’t wait to share more about that news soon! Can you guess what will be joining the farm?!
Our New Mattress
“You’re telling me there is a bed in this bag?!” – Lola
Last week on the blog I gave my full review of the “bed in a bag” we received about a month ago. We have needed a new bed for a long time! Once I finished renovating the master bedroom I thought it was the perfect time to upgrade. I knew I wanted a memory foam mattress but with so many options it was a tough decision. I spent hours researching different memory foam mattresses and ultimately landed on the Layla Hybrid. Let me tell you, those hours of research paid off! Kurt and I have never experience such great sleep.

Finding the Positive
It’s hard to believe we are approaching another week of our new normal. This week was supposed to be our spring break. Instead we will all be working to continue to teach and connect with our kiddos virtually. If you are new here, I am a full time elementary school psychologist. Even though I was looking forward to having a break from working from home, I am excited to see the kids during my virtual “office hours” and grateful to have a job to do during these trying times.
What new normal have you been enjoying? Getting to see kids at home with their family and meeting there pets through our online meetings has been fun for me. I’m so grateful for technology and it’s ability to keep us connected through all of this!
A Glimpse into our House Journey
About a year before finding our forever farmhouse, Kurt and I had found a farmhouse that checked almost every box (and we had a lot of boxes). After searching for nearly 6 years, we knew exactly what we wanted in a home and we thought we had found it. A white farmhouse with a big red barn and a ton of land. That house also had the most beautiful forsythia bush out front, a flower that reminds me of my grandma. Kurt and I put multiple offers in on that house with no luck. I was devastated. Unfortunately that was not the first time we lost a house that we saw as a forever home. Each time we lost a house people would tell us there was a better one out there. At the time that was the last thing I wanted to hear. I knew they meant well but in the moment it made me cringe. It wasn’t until we finally closed on our farmhouse that it all made sense. God had a plan for us and it was far bigger than we had ever dreamed of. Today I planted this forsythia bush in front of our farmhouse. It serves as a reminder of the journey we took to find our dream home.
