How I Got Started On Instagram
I wish I could remember how I first found the home decor feeds on IG. All I remember is once I found one page I found a TON! They quickly began to take over my feed, and not necessarily in a bad way either! I decided to make a separate account for just home decor. Even though I can be a bit scattered (at any given time I am ALWAYS in the middle of about 5 million projects) but I still like to try to stay organized. So I made a separate account where I could go to be inspired. When we moved into our cute little apartment (that I talk about here) I started thinking about how I might fit in with the decor community. I named my account MyVintageFairyTale and with some much needed encouragement from my sweet sister, began posting pictures.
Let me show you some of my first pictures!
What I Learned
I learned VERY quickly that there was a lot more to Instagram than just posting pictures. First off, taking a picture is a lot more than using a button on your phone. I spent HOURS setting up a cute little spot, holding a lamp high up in one hand while snapping a pic with the other. It was like instagram twister! And let me tell you, I was SO proud of these pictures! I spent hours on these pictures between staging it just right, trying to get the right lighting, snapping the right angle, and then starting all over again when I looked at the 20 million pictures I took to realize it might look better if one item was 2 millimeters to the right.. lol! However, the more I practiced, the better I got! It was around this time that I changed my name to TheVintiqueFarmhouse, a name that I loved and thought would perfectly describe our future house.
The Unexpected Gift
The more I practiced my design and picture taking skills, the more I learned and improved, but the best part was all the friends I was making along the way! I never could have imagined all the amazing people I meet through Instagram! So many sweet souls who have pretty homes and beautiful hearts. So, the moral of the story is that it is never to early to start! It can be easy to think of every excuse for why you shouldn’t do something you dream about, try to think of reasons why you should! Some of my excuses were that we didn’t have a house (and still don’t), I didn’t own a ‘real’ camera (and still don’t), and I didn’t know what to call myself (I just changed my name for the third, and hopefully last, time)! If I continued to let these things hold me back, I would have missed out on so many amazing experiences, friendships, and opportunities!
(This was my very first picture to be featured for the hashtag #FrugalFridayFind and I will never forget how excited I was!)
The moral of the story is, take a leap of faith! Stop waiting for the perfect moment to begin a dream you have because you don’t want to miss out on all the wonderful parts along the way!
