What is a cloche?
A cloche is a dome, typically made of glass, plastic, or wire, used to place over plants to protects them and trap humidity. Several years ago I went to a church sale and found my first antique glass garden cloche. At the time I didn’t know what it was. I thought it was really neat looking so I bought it and did some research. Turns out antique glass cloches aren’t super easy to come by. I started brainstorming what else I could use to serve the same purpose.
Cake Dome Garden Cloche
One day when I was at the thrift store I noticed the glass lid of a cake stand looked similar to the antique cloche I had. Glass cake domes can make a perfect cloche for seedlings in the garden or as spring home decor.
DIY Spring Decor Garden Cloche
It is also easy to make DIY glass garden cloches. When making your own, you can choose what size the cloche is and what style it has. I made three smaller glass cloches using vases from the Dollar Tree and glass knobs from the hardware store. Watch my video to see step by step how I made my DIY spring decor glass garden cloches.
How to make a glass garden cloche
Materials
- Glass Vase (mine came from the floral and glassware sections at the Dollar Tree, but check your thrift stores and even your cabinets for things you no longer use)
- Glass Knobs (HERE are some similar to the ones I found at my hardware store, but you could use anything you like on the top)
- e6000 Glue
Step 1: Remove any stickers and residue from your glass jars. Wash well and let dry completely.
Step 2: Apply E6000 glue to the base of your glass knob and adhere to the bottom of the glass vase/ top of the cloche.
Step 3: Make sure the knob is centered. Let it dry for at least 24 hours.
Step 4: Style your cloche in your home and enjoy!
