Fall decor does not have to be complicated or expensive. Using a bag of faux pears from Hobby Lobby and branches from a tree I created 8 fall pear stems for only $2.50!
I LOVE fall, and being that this is our first fall at the farmhouse I have been really excited to decorate. However, real life hit and when September rolled around we found ourselves in the middle of restoration projects; AKA no extra time or money.
I have been finding ways to add simple and affordable fall touches around the house. When I saw that my friends Tanya (@thecozynestof_diy) and Hope (@withhopeandgrace) made DIY pear stems I knew I needed to make these for our home too! I used pears from Hobby Lobby that came in a pack of 16 for only $5. I bought them when they were half off, but they also have a 40% off coupon on their website!
Supplies
This DIY could not be any easier! All you need is faux foam pears and tree branches. You could use hot glue as well but I skipped this step. I chose to leave my pears green, but you could use some paint to get a different look.
How to make fall pear stems:
Step 1: Cut branches from a tree. Mine were about 6inches to a foot, but you can make your stems as long or short as you like.
Step 2: Remove the stems from the pears by gently pulling them out.
Step 3: Pinch the end of a stem off to leave about a half inch of bare stem before the next set of leaf nodes. Optional: Apply a small dab of hot glue to the tip of the stem.
Step 4: Gently insert the tree stem into the pear where the faux stem was removed.
Step 5: Repeat as desired. I added 1-2 pears per stem.
Don’t throw away the scraps, yet!
I used a few of the pieces I plucked off the main stems to make more realistic looking individual pears as well. I simply put the little branch with a couple leaves still attached in place of the old stem. This gave the appearance of a pear that had been picked straight from the farm.
Time to Decorate
Once all my stems were completed, I simply tucked them in a bowl that was filled with dried eucalyptus. You could also add these to a vase, basket, or dough bowl.. the possibilities are endless!
It doesn’t get any easier than that, am I right? This entire project took me about 15 minutes from start to styled. Better yet, it only cost me $2.50. You can’t beat that!
