It’s no secret that I love a great bargain find. In this post, I share some of my top junkin’ finds to date, and how I used them to add rustic farmhouse cottage style to our home.
If you don’t know yet, you will quickly learn that I LOVE JUNK! Well, what most people might consider junk… I love the hunt for things that have a story to tell. Pretty much anything old, chippy, dented, scratched… you get the idea, right?! I have found a love for hunting for these treasures. And don’t get me wrong, it is nice to go to pretty antique stores for inspiration, but I have the best time when I am digging through a pile of dirty old stuff with the hope of finding that one special treasure. I thought it might be fun to share some of those favorite junking finds!
1. Old Milk Jug
I found this pretty chippy baby at a flea market one summer. I was instantly drawn to it because of it’s perfectly chippy white paint. I almost fainted when I saw the $5 price tag!
2. Milk Glass Cake Stands
A few years back I went to an estate sale with my mother-in-law and found a vintage milk glass cake stand. I looked at it and admired its beauty but thought, what the heck will I do with it and where will I store it?! These are questions that 99.9999% of the time lead to regret! I always I say, I’ve never regretted something I bought, only those things I didn’t! Well, about 30 milk glass cake stands later and I still can’t pass one up when I find it!
3. Antique Salvaged Mantel
This is definitely one of my favorite finds! I searched and searched on our local craigslist for an antique fireplace mantel for so long before finding this beauty. And just when I thought it could’t get any better, I found out there were two! I couldn’t leave one behind so Kurt and I got both and they became focal points in our old village apartment. They are in storage now but I can not wait to find a home for them in our farmhouse!
4. A Farmhouse Sink
Something really cool about my dad’s house is that is is an old farm house with lots of treasures just waiting to be found along the rock walls in the backyard. Ever since I was little, one of my favorite things to do was to explore in the backyard and dig for old glass bottles. Well, I’m twenty something years later and I still love digging for treasures just as much as I did when I was little! One night I was out searching and found this HUGE cast iron farmhouse sink! I was beyond excited! Unfortunately, it was a bit beyond repair for a house. I could’t let it go to waste and so I turned it into a potting bench!
5. Gardening Wagon
This little garden wagon is both pretty and practical! This was such a fun auction find. I had to go head to head with another lady who wanted this wagon too. My adrenalin was pumping! I was so excited when I had the final bid!
So there you have it, some of my favorite junkin’ finds! I would love to know what treasures you have found in the the comments below! Thank you so much for stopping by to read the blog today! It means so much! I hope to see you on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest too!
