This post is from January of 2018 and explains why I started a blog and a little bit about our house journey.
Hi, welcome to DianaMarieHome! I am SO happy you stopped by! DianaMarieHome is a place where I will share all things home. But wait, I don’t have a house! Ha! That is why I have waited so long (too long) to start this little blog of mine! You see, I started a home decor instagram account July 27, 2016. I’ll talk more about how I got started on instagram in another post, but for now i’ll just say that my fiancé Kurt and I had just moved into the most charming apartment in a little village in New York. I’m talking GORGEOUS original hardwood floors, super high ceilings, the biggest windows I’ve ever seen that looked out over the village.. It was perfect, and I had a space to exercise my passion of home decor.
I started posting my pictures on an Instagram I made just for home decor. I loved being inspired by all the amazing people on what is known as the home decor Instagram community, and I loved being able to share what I was doing in my home too! After Kurt had a career change that required him to move closer to where we are originally from (near Rochester NY), it threw a little wrench in my decor plans. Kurt moved out and I found myself only staying at the apartment during the week and traveling to see Kurt every weekend. I was also a full time graduate student at the time so that didn’t leave much time to decorate and share pictures. I also didn’t have that warm cozy home feeling at the apartment any more. I remember my friend had asked me if I considered starting a blog to go along with my Instagram, and I thought, I can barely keep up with my Instagram, how could I take on more?! However, it was always in the back of my mind and I was waiting for the perfect time to be able to officially start a blog.
Starting my Blog
I thought, once Kurt and I bought our first home I would start blogging. Well, buying a home is definitely a story for another post because we started our search for a home in 2014 and long story short we are still not home owners. In fact, we currently live at my dad’s house! After I finished school I was able to move home with Kurt, and since we still had not found a house to buy my dad was kind enough to let us stay with him so that we could save money for a house. So again, I felt like I was not ready to start a blog when we didn’t even have an apartment of our own anymore! The more I thought about it (and I mean this was on the back of my mind ALL the time!) I realized, we might not have a house, but we have always had a home! We are at home when ever we are together, and that is so important! So, I decided that waiting to own a house was no reason to keep putting off taking the next step of starting my blog. Instead, I realized I could create a space that allows for life’s changes and curveballs, a space that I can share our journey of house hunting, rather than waiting to just share our future house. That space is DianaMarieHome!
Diana Marie Home Blog
So, if you are still with me, I am so happy to start sharing our journey with you! The highs and lows and everything in-between! I’ll share more about where we have been (like our almost forever home), what we are up to now (like our little flock of chickens, diy, and thrifting, did I mention I LOVE to thrift?!), and what ever the future brings (hopefully potential houses and eventually lots and lots of projects to make our future house a home).
Thank you for stopping by to see what DianaMarieHome is all about and I can’t wait to share more with you soon! I would love to chat with you, leave a comment down below to say Hi! =) You can also follow along on Instagram, chat on Facebook, and dream on Pinterest!
